TCU guard Desmond Bane willed the Horned Frogs to victory over Iowa State with a career-high 27 points Wednesday night. The Frogs erased a double-digit deficit to defeat Iowa State, 89-83, improving TCU’s record to 19-9 overall and 7-8 in the Big 12 Conference.

With the win, the Horned Frogs reached seven wins in league play for the first time since they went 7-7 in the Mountain West Conference in 2012. The game also marked TCU’s fourth sweep against a Big 12 opponent in program history and its first win at Iowa State in 35 years.

In addition to breaking his previous career high of 24 points, set earlier this season against Tennessee Tech, Bane set another personal best by shooting 10-15 from the field.

The Cyclones jumped ahead early, leading by as many as 11 following a three-pointer from guard Donovan Jackson with 7:14 remaining in the first half. Jackson had 17 points at the break and finished the night with 27.

Bane’s fellow starters had a large role in the comeback as well. Alex Robinson scored 18 points with six assists and six rebounds, Kouat Noi added 17 points and six rebounds, and Vladimir Brodziansky had 14 points and three rebounds for TCU.

However, TCU had to overcome an off night from its leading scorer, as guard Kenrich Williams brought down nine rebounds but scored just two points.

TCU ripped off a 15-4 run at the beginning of the second half, which was a crucial part of their overcoming the deficit.

While the Horned Frogs were the sloppier team, committing 15 turnovers to only nine for Iowa State, TCU made up for it from the charity stripe. TCU knocked down 80 percent of its free throws, hitting 16 of 20.

The Horned Frogs outshot the Cyclones 57.9 percent to 46.0 percent from the field and out-rebounded them 34-26.
